Job description
Support Worker (3392)
We have an exciting opportunity for a support worker to join our dedicated team in Mirus Respite. In this role, you will support people to build relationships, try new things, and feel part of their community – so that they can live good lives.
As part of the Respite team, you will be supporting families/carers to have time away and short breaks from the crucial support they provide to there loved ones and individuals they support.
A full UK driving license is essential.
Due to the variety of people we support you will need to be a good team player and be able to adapt to different support needs and situations to ensure the support we provide is person centred. You will need to be a very upbeat and willing to learn new things.
A little about Respite.
Within the respite setting you will be supporting across two separate properties with a total of 48 (currently) people we support. These 48 individuals will have short stays dependant on their allocation throughout the year which could include, weekdays, one nights, weekends and stays up to a maximum of 3 weeks. Although both properties can hold a maximum of three people we support at a time, only one is open all week, the other just for weekends.
Due to the amount of people we support and the differences in needs the biggest factor Respite runs on is compatibility. This compatibility is the cement that holds Respite together and ensures the support we provide to others is both person centred and inclusive of our values as a provider.
As we are commissioned through the local authority, we receive referrals on a weekly basis for others to potentially use the service, meaning our numbers are always changing.
Throughout the year we are only commissioned to be open for 48 weeks meaning 8 weeks a year respite does not run. During these few weeks scattered throughout the year you will be redeployed to other services within Mirus or expected to take annual leave if you require. These 8 weeks currently accrue during holiday periods (summer holidays and Christmas etc) but due to the need for respite growing higher each year this may change in the future.
